In short
- One necessary cookie remembers your choice. Analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you say yes.
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4) helps us improve the site. Marketing (Google Ads) tells us which ads work.
- You can change your mind at any time with the button below or the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.
Your choice, any time. Review or change what you have allowed on this site.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. They let a site remember information between pages or visits, such as your preferences, and let services like analytics tools recognise a returning browser.
Cookies set by the site you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another company’s service used on that site are third-party cookies. Similar technologies, such as browser storage and tracking pixels, work in comparable ways; in this policy, “cookies” covers them too.
How we use cookies
Under Cyprus Law 112(I)/2004, which implements the EU ePrivacy Directive, and the GDPR, we may store or read information on your device without your consent only when it is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for. Everything else needs your prior, freely given consent. In practice, on theadverve.com:
- strictly necessary cookies are always on, and there is only one: the cookie that stores your consent choice;
- analytics and marketing cookies are off until you opt in through our cookie banner or preferences panel;
- “Accept all” and “Reject all” are equally easy to choose, and “Customize” lets you decide category by category; and
- our banner is not a cookie wall: you can read every page whether you accept or reject.
Any personal data collected through cookies is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
Cookie categories
Necessary (always on)
Required for the site to work and to remember your cookie choice. They do not track you and cannot be switched off in our settings. You can block them in your browser, but the site will then ask for your choice on every visit.
Analytics (off until you consent)
Google Analytics 4 helps us understand how many people visit, which pages they find useful and how they found us, so we can improve the site. The reports we see are aggregated.
Marketing (off until you consent)
Google Ads cookies tell us whether someone who clicked one of our ads later sent us an inquiry, so we can measure and improve our advertising. With your consent, Google may also use them to show you more relevant ads on other websites.
Cookies we use
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|
adverve_consent | theadverve.com | Stores consent choices | 6 months | Necessary |
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes users | 2 years | Analytics |
_ga_<container-id> | Google Analytics | Persists session state | 2 years | Analytics |
_gcl_au | Google Ads | Conversion attribution | 90 days | Marketing |
_gcl_aw / _gcl_dc | Google Ads | Stores ad click info for conversions | 90 days | Marketing |
IDE | Google (doubleclick.net) | Ad personalisation and measurement | 13 months | Marketing |
test_cookie | Google (doubleclick.net) | Checks whether the browser accepts cookies | 15 minutes | Marketing |
<container-id>stands for the ID of our Google Analytics property.- The
adverve_consentcookie holds only your choices (analytics on or off, marketing on or off), the date you made them and the policy version. IDEandtest_cookieare third-party cookies set on Google’s doubleclick.net domain, and only if you allow marketing cookies.- Durations are maximums. Google refreshes some cookies on each visit, which restarts their clock. Google may occasionally change the names or lifetimes of its cookies; its current list is at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.
Other technologies
- Session storage. Two small flags in your browser’s session storage,
adv_loadedandadv_transition, stop our intro animation from replaying and smooth the transition between pages. They contain no personal data, are never sent to us, and are deleted when you close the tab. - URL passthrough. While marketing cookies are off, Google’s tag may carry ad-click information (such as the
gclidparameter) in the address of the pages you visit on our site instead of storing it in a cookie, so that a conversion can still be counted without cookies. - Ads data redaction. While marketing cookies are off, ad-click identifiers are removed from the requests Google’s tags send.
- Self-hosted fonts. Our fonts load from our own server, so opening a page does not send your IP address to a third-party font service.
Google Consent Mode v2
Google Consent Mode v2 lets our Google tags respect your choice automatically. On every page, before any Google tag loads, we set these signals to denied by default:
analytics_storage: whether analytics cookies may be used;ad_storage: whether advertising cookies may be used;ad_user_data: whether data may be sent to Google for advertising; andad_personalization: whether ads may be personalised.
When you make a choice, we update them. The Analytics category controls analytics_storage; the Marketing category controls ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization.
Before you consent
We use Consent Mode in its advanced setup. Google’s tags may load on every page before you make a choice, but while consent is denied they set and read no cookies. Instead they send cookieless pings: basic signals such as a page view or a conversion, the consent state, and technical details such as the time, browser and device information, without cookies or advertising identifiers. Your IP address is transmitted to Google as part of any web request. Google can use these signals to model aggregate results, such as an estimated number of conversions, without identifying you. We rely on our legitimate interest in measuring overall site performance without cookies for these signals; our Privacy Policy explains this and how to object.
After you consent
The tags start using the cookies listed above for the categories you allowed. If you later withdraw consent, they stop.
Global Privacy Control
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a setting offered by some browsers and extensions that tells websites you do not want your data sold or shared for advertising. We honour it. If your browser sends a GPC signal and you have not yet made a choice on our site, we treat it as a refusal of marketing cookies: our banner tells you so, “Accept all” turns on analytics only, and marketing stays off unless you deliberately switch it on in your preferences. You can still decide about analytics as normal.
Changing your preferences
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it:
- use the button on this page, or the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page; then
- switch analytics or marketing on or off and save, or choose “Accept all” or “Reject all”.
Your choice is stored in the adverve_consent cookie for 6 months. After that, or sooner if we make a significant change to the cookies we use, we will ask you again.
When you withdraw consent, our tags stop using that category straight away and we delete the related Google cookies stored on our own domain (such as _ga and _gcl_au). We cannot delete third-party cookies set on Google’s domains, such as IDE; you can remove those in your browser settings.
Browser controls
Most browsers let you see, block and delete cookies. Blocking all cookies may stop some websites from working properly. Here is how to manage them in the most common browsers:
You can also control how Google personalises ads in My Ad Center, and stop Google Analytics on every website with Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy if we add, remove or change the cookies we use, or when the law changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. If a change affects what you have agreed to, we will ask for your consent again.
